Anderson-Peterson Family Distinguished Athlete Award recipients

Also, during this year’s program, the Hammond Sports Hall of Fame will present its 34th  annual Anderson-Peterson Family Distinguished Student Athlete Award to two 2024 high school graduates of Hammond schools who depict athletic achievement, academic excellence, dedication, citizenship, and school and community service.

The recipients are Bishop Noll alumna Alessandra Lopez and Morton graduate Willie Collins.

Alessandra Lopez earned 11 varsity letters competing in soccer, cross country and track & field and served as a team captain in each sport. She graduated with academic distinction and also participated with Noll’s Science Olympiad team, Art Club, Rock & Jazz Bands, Women’s Empowerment, Environmental Club, Hispanic Student Union and Athletic Student Council. She also served her community through Project Now and People’s Turkey Drive. She attends Milwaukee School of Engineering and continues to compete in track and field.

Willie Collins is a 3-time basketball letter winner for the Governors, earning GLAC All-Conference honors. Academically, he was ranked fifth in his graduating class. He also served on his school’s Athletic Student Advisory Committee and was active in his community contributing to the Hessville Clean Up initiative, Food Pantry and as a volunteer elementary basketball referee. He has continued his basketball career at Indiana University Northwest.
